Kelly Daunno
Daunno and her older sister, Jennifer Daunno (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) have now earned the school’s Athlete of the Week award a combined 19 times between them.
In the season-opening Northeast Conference Meet #1 on November 10-11 for the #13/13 ranked Gothic Knights, Daunno placed 11th in a field of 64 bowlers with 209.0 per game average and her nine-game pinfall of 1881 was ninth highest in the field. NJCU went 5-4 in the meet.
Daunno exceeded 200 in five of nine games with three games of better than 230, including a high of 236.
On day one of the event, she rolled a 215 in a 987-928 victory over #15/15 Adelphi University, a 232 in an 1112-1020 slugfest defeat against Long Island University and a 192 in a 996-983 edging of #19/19 Saint Francis University (Pa.). She tossed a 180 in a 1008-990 loss to #3/3 Fairleigh Dickinson University and a 192 in a 1063-1021 loss to unranked St. Francis College (NY).
On day two, she opened the day with a 673 series and finished the day with a four-game total of 870 for a 217.5 average.
Daunno, the most successful left-hander in program history, fired a 232 in a 1063-806, 257-pin rout of inter-city rival Saint Peter’s University and a 205 in a 1044-942 loss to Monmouth University. She tossed a 236 against #12/12 Kutztown University and the Knights needed each pin, edging the Golden Bears by 14 pins, 999-985. She completed the day with a 197 in NJCU’s 1001-945 upset of #7/7 Sacred Heart University.
