Alnisa Hernaiz
Even in a pair of losses for NJCU, Alnisa Hernaiz continues to enjoy an outstanding junior campaign. She posted double-doubles in each game last week—her fifth and sixth of the season and 14th and 15th of her career—while reaching double figures in both scoring and rebounding for the 24th and 25th times in her career. She finished as NJCU’s top rebounder for the 30th and 31st times and with 556 career rebounds, Hernaiz moved into 11th place in program history in boards.

For the week, she averaged 15.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.0 assists and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting a sizzling 90.9 percent from the foul line (10-11) and 47.6 percent from the field (10-21). In 63 minutes she tallied 30 points, 27 rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block.

In a 66-56 loss at Ramapo College on January 16, Hernaiz scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while shooting .444 from the field (4-9) and a perfect 3-for-3 at the line in 33 minutes.

In a last-minute 55-52 setback against Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ on January 19, the 5-foot-7 Criminal Justice major registered a monster double-double of 19 points, 17 rebounds, including 11 offensive caroms, with three steals, two assists and one block in 30 minutes before fouling out. She shot .500 from the floor (6-12) and 7-of-8 from the line.

In 17 games (not including the January 21 contest at College of New Rochelle), Hernaiz had averaged 10.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 1.1 assists and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting .430 from the field (71-65) and .559 (38-68) from the free throw stripe. In 510 minutes, she has tallied 180 points and 179 rebounds (76 offensive, 179 defensive) while making every start.

Among the NJAC statistical leaders through January 21, Hernaiz ranks No. 1 in rebounding at 10.5 per game (next closest player is 9.3 rpg),  second in offensive rebounding (4.5 per game) and defensive rebounding (6.1 per game),  seventh in field goal percentage, 12th in steals and blocked shots,  and 15th in scoring. She also lists 36th nationally in rebounds per game out of all players at the 450 Division III programs that sponsor women’s basketball, and her six double-doubles list 63rd nationally.
