JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | For the second consecutive week to open the 2013-14 academic year, sophomore midfielder/forward Aboubacar Diawara (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) of the men’s soccer team and Jade Medley (Queens, NJ/Hudson Catholic) of the women’s volleyball team are the New Jersey City University Athletes of the Week. The honor is for the period of September 2-8, 2013.
Medley receives the award for the fifth time in her collegiate career—four times for women’s volleyball (October 3 and 24, 2011 and September 2, 2013) and once for women’s basketball (December 17, 2012). Diawara is now a two-time selection.
JADE MEDLEY
In NJCU’s lone match of the week, a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-14) home sweep of John Jay on September 3, Medley, a Psychology major with a minor in Criminal Justice, hit a scintillating .700 on attack with eight kills (one error) in 10 attempts. She added one solo block.
Though September 8, Medley ranks seventh in the NJAC in blocking (0.65 per set, 8-3-11), eighth in hitting percentage (33-12-72, .292), and 17th in kills per set (1.94).
