CRISTHIAN ACUNA is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week after the sophomore netted two goals and added three assists for a seven-point effort as the New Jersey City University men’s soccer, ranked 15th in the nation, cruised to an 8-1 non-conference victory over Keystone College on September 13. It was the Gothic Knights only game of the week. NJCU has now won 18 of its last 19 home contests and is 30-4-1 in Jersey City over the last four seasons.

 

Acuna’s seven-point outburst marked the 15th time in school history a player has notched that many points in a contest, and were just two shy of matching the single-game school record of nine.

 

Trailing 1-0 in the contest, NJCU struck for two goals in 39 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. After Keystone went ahead, NJCU tied it 48 seconds later on Acuna’s third goal of the season at 10:30, shot into the top of the goal off a cross. Just 39 seconds later, Acuna provided a perfect cross that was blasted in for the game-winner.

 

In the second half, Acuna notched a second goal, and two assists, as NJCU outshot the Giants, 40-5.
