Senior middle blocker Shege Haxhaj (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) of the women’s volleyball team wraps up her fall athletics career as the New Jersey City University Athlete of the Week for the period of October 24-30, 2016.
 
Haxhaj, a senior co-captain and Criminal Justice major with a Pre-Law minor, is Athlete of the Week for a third consecutive week as she capped her career on a high note. She is a four-time recipient, previously honored on September 7, 2015 and October 17 and 24, 2016.
 
Here’s a look at the accomplishments of Haxhaj last week:

  • Haxhaj helped NJCU finish the year with a 15-14 ledger—its first winning season since 2008.
  • She hit .375 for the week with 31 kills, 40.0 points, seven aces and four blocks and averaged 2.67 points, 2.07 kills and 0.47 aces for the week. Haxhaj reached double figures in kills for the sixth this year and 23rd time in her career.
  • She finished her career with 973.5 points, 751 kills, 177 blocks and 107 aces.
  • She ended the season averaging 3.05 points, 2.16 kills, 0.70 blocks, 0.51 digs and 0.45 aces in 27 matches (26 starts) over 93 sets. She tallied 201 kills and hit .255 for the season (201-81-471) with 283.5 points, 65.0 total blocks, 47 digs and 42 aces.
  • In a 3-1 loss at Montclair State on October 25, she hit a sizzling .455 with five kills and no errors in 11 swings (one block).
  • On October 27 in a 3-2 road win at CCNY, she landed eight kills and two aces.
  • On October 29 in a tri-match at Manhattanville, she wrapped up her four-year career in style, combining for 18 kills in seven sets 18-3-35 for a .429 attack percentage. She added five aces and three blocks on the day. Against Manhattanville she powered home 10 kills and hit .562 (10-1-16) with two blocks. She helped NJCU to a 3-1 win over Staten Island, slamming eight kills at a .316 percentage (8-2-19) while unleashing five aces and one block.
  • As of October 31, she ranks among the New Jersey Athletic Conference leader in five categories—seventh in blocks, eighth in points and aces, 10th in hitting percentage and 18th in kills.
