Graduate student power forward Chinwe Wosu (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) of the men's basketball team is an New Jersey City University Athletes of the Week for the period of January 2-8, 2017.
 
Wosu, the reigning NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-NJAC last year in just his second season of collegiate basketball, is completing his eligibility this year while pursuing an MBA in Organizational Management and Leadership. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound team co-captain wins the NJCU weekly award for the fourth time in his career and the first time in 2016-17.
 
Chinwe Wosu:
  • In the Gothic Knights' first-ever game as a D3hoops.com nationally ranked team (No. 23), he was NJCU's most consistent player, shooting 5-of-10 for 12 points with five rebounds and two steals.
  • In the 48-46 upset road loss on January 4, he helped NJCU hold Montclair State to its lowest scoring output in four years.
  • Wosu is currently averaging 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.2 assists and 0.5 blocks in just 21.1 minutes per game, starting all 14 contests. He is shooting .466 from the field (41-88) and .600 at the line (27-45).
  • Thru games of January 9, Wosu ranks third overall in the NJAC in offensive rebounds (2.9 per game) and is 15th in overall rebounding.
