OMAR ALI is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week after he set up both game-winning goals in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament.

 

In NJCU’s 2-0 win over Centenary College on November 8 in the ECAC Quarterfinals, Ali’s corner kick just 12:33 into the game led to a header goal by teammate Scott Modzelewski, and provided all the offense the Knights would need.

 

Leading 1-0 in the semifinals against Kean University on November 11, his corner kick from the right endline led to another header, as teammate Patrick Thomas finished his pass for a 2-0 lead. It proved to be decisive, as NJCU prevailed 2-1.

 

He played in 229 of a possible 270 minutes at center midfield last week. Ali finished the year with seven points (two goals, three assists) in 14 games and seven starts, after recovering from an early season injury that kept him out of 11 contests. He had 33 shots, including 15 on goal.
