Senior center ABRAHAM WILLIAMS (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for his role in a week in which New Jersey City University faced two unbeaten opponents, winning once.
Williams had a tremendous week for the Gothic Knights on both sides of the ball as he shot 70.6 percent from he field (12-17), while averaging a double-double of 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, with 2.0 blocks and 1.5 assists per game.
In NJCU’s, come-from-behind, 67-59 win over previously unbeaten Kean University on December 9, Williams achieved his second straight double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds (seven defensive), and three assists. During a 17-4 run to close the game, he scored six points for NJCU.
Trailing 55-50 with 6:44 left, Williams put back an offensive rebound to trim the deficit to 58-57 with 4:42 remaining. His court vision led to an assist on a wide-open, uncontested layup by teammate Kevin Tucker at 4:08 and the Knights reclaimed the lead for good, 59-58. Williams hit the front end of two sets of free throws for a 61-58 margin at 1:16.
In NJCU’s 77-72 road loss to Rutgers-Newark, Williams finished with a double-double and season highs of 17 points (8-of-11 FG), 15 rebounds (11 defensive), and three blocks in 35 minutes. He had nine boards in the second half.
Williams is third on NJCU in scoring (11.4), rebounding (5.6) and assists (1.8) per game. He is the leader in field goal percentage this season at 62.5 percent, shooting 40 of 64.
