FARMINGDALE, NY…New Jersey City University senior goalkeeper BABA GUISSE (Jersey City, NJ/Lycee Eugene Delacroix, France) posted three saves, to register his eighth shutout of the season, and broke the school record with the 19th solo shutout of his career, as the Gothic Knights blanked Farmingdale State University, 3-0, in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon.

Guisse, who has been NJCU’s starting keeper for most of his four-year career, eclipsed the previous school career record of 18 that JEFF EAST, the younger brother of head coach Kevin East, tallied in a three-year career from 1998-2000.

NJCU improves to 11-7 on the season, while FSU drops to 2-14-1, losing its fifth consecutive game and eighth in nine outings.

Offensively for NJCU, senior forward ADRIAN RUIZ (Fairview, NJ/Dickinson) scored twice to become only the third player in school history to amass 70 career points. He has eight goals and 24 points this season, and 25 goals and 20 assists for 70 points in his four-year career. Ruiz moved into a tie for third in school history in career goals, and is eight points shy of the career record of 78 points achieved by Marc Palumbo (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) from 1999-2002.

Ruiz opened the scoring at 25:25 when he knocked in a saved rebound of his own shot for his second game-winner of the season.

Freshman midfielder PATRICK THOMAS (Roselle, NJ/Linden) netted his seventh goal of the season at 64:43 off an assist from freshman midfielder JOHN JENSEN (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township). The assist was Jensen’s fourth of the season.

Ruiz was taken down from behind in the box with one second remaining, and capitalized when he drilled a penalty kick to wrap up the scoring in the 3-0 shutout.
NJCU outshot the Rams, 32-5. Junior goalkeeper Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) stopped 10 shots in a losing cause.

NJCU will host the Association of Division III Independents Regional Championship at 11 am on Saturday, October 30 when the top-seeded Gothic Knights face Mitchell College in the semi-final round.
