RUIZ MOVES INTO TOP FIVE IN CAREER SCORING; GUISSE CLOSES IN ON SHUTOUTS MARK
NEW YORK, NY…New Jersey City University received a first half goal from senior forward ADRIAN RUIZ (Fairview, NJ/Dickinson), and posted its third straight shutout victory, as the Gothic Knights extended its consecutive minutes scoreless streak to 291:04 with a 1-0 win over John Jay College at Riverbank State Park.
NJCU has won three consecutive games, to improve to 7-2 on the season. The Gothic Knights are a perfect 8-0 against John Jay since their first meeting in 1983, and have never been scored on by the Bloodhounds (32-0). John Jay (1-7-2), has lost two straight, and is winless in its last nine games.
The only goal NJCU needed came at 13:30 of the first half, as junior midfielder OMAR ALI (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) fed a pass into the box which Ruiz drilled into the right corner from 16 yards out. It was his third goal of the season, and the second assist for Ali.
The goal gave Ruiz his 20th career goal and 54th career point, as the senior captain moved into a tie for fourth place in school history in points, to crack the Top 5. His 20th goal also moved him into a tie for 10th place in the NJCU record books in goals scored.
Senior goalkeeper BABA GUISSE (Jersey City, NJ/Lycee Eugene Delacroix, France) made four saves to register his third straight shutout, his fifth of the season and the 17th of his four-year career. He is one shutout shy of matching the record of 18 set by JEFF EAST, the younger brother of head coach Kevin East in a three-year career from 1998-2000. Sophomore keeper Michal Podbiekski (Brooklyn, NY) made six saves for John Jay. NJCU had an 11-6 edge in shots in the victory.
