JERSEY CITY, NJ…New Jersey City University junior forward CARINE CARVALHEIRO (Newark, NJ/Newark-East Side) scored twice to become the all-time leading points scorer in school history, and freshman forward KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ/Wall) also notched two goals, as the Gothic Knights outshot the City College of New York, 27-5, and shutout the Beavers, 5-0, at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.

The win is the second straight for NJCU (2-5-1), which ran its consecutive minutes scoreless streak to 177:17. The Knights own a 6-0 edge in the all-time series with CCNY, and have outscored the Beavers, 44-3. CCNY dropped its second straight game to fall to 1-2 on the season. NJCU outshot CCNY in the first half alone, 17-2.

Carvalheiro scored twice to give her 45 career points on 18 goals and nine assists, and thus eclipse the record of 43 points achieved by Marie Merilus (19 goals, five assists) from 2000-03. Her next goal will tie the career goals record.

Feehan, who scored the game-winner in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the College of Staten Island, notched the winner for a second straight match, putting NJCU up for good at 16:17 of the first half with her second goal of the year. Junior defender JACKIE PETTY (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) lifted a long pass over the CCNY defense, leading to a breakaway chance which Feehan finished inside the right post.

Carvalheiro, who uncorked 11 of NJCU’s 27 shots, gave NJCU a 2-0 lead and tied the career points record at 33:23, when she rocketed a direct kick from the top of the box off the keeper’s hands.

Feehan added her second goal of the game and third of the season just 27 seconds later when her cross from the deep left endline curved in midair and found nylon at 33:50.

NJCU led 3-0 at the half, and maintained its advantage until freshman forward KELLY DALY (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) received a chip in the box from junior defender MEGAN COLLINS (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne), and blasted her second goal of the season inside the left post at 67:58.

Carvalheiro established the new career points record at 75:27 of the second half as she capped the scoring in the 5-0 win. Freshman midfielder NINA CELUCH (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Conception (Lodi)) fed a thru-ball between the CCNY defense, which Carvalheiro blasted home on the breakaway for her fourth goal of the year and 45th career point.

Freshman CASSANDRA ZIENIUK (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) guarded the NJCU net, and made two saves to record her first career victory and shutout. It was NJCU’s first shutout since blanking Bard College, 4-0, on October 23, 2002—a span of 27 games.

Freshman keeper Marcella Dawson (Bronx, NY/Julia Richman) made six saves for CCNY, which also had one team save.

The Gothic Knights return to action on Wednesday, September 29 at 4 pm in a home Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest against St. Joseph’s College-Patchogue.
