22-5 GOTHIC KNIGHTS WIN 18TH CONSECUTIVE HOME MATCH

JERSEY CITY, NJ…Freshman outside hitter JACQUELINE LeBLANC (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) smacked a match-high 16 kills and hit .433, and sophomore outside hitter GLORINELL PEREZ (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) added 11 digs and a season-high eight service aces as New Jersey City University won its 18th consecutive home match, sweeping Lehman College, 30-15, 30-28, 30-12, in a non-conference contest at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.

NJCU improves to 22-5 with its ninth consecutive victory, and its 18th win in 19 matches. It is the second nine-match winning streak this season, and equals the second-longest such streak in program history. NJCU has not lost at home since 2003, and are a perfect 18-0 at home in the last two seasons. NJCU hit .329 as a team with 44 kills (44-16-85).

Lehman (10-15) drops its fifth straight match. NJCU leads the all-time series, which began in 1985, 14-8.

Sophomore middle blocker LIZZELLE CINTRON (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) collected 12 total points, and broke the all-time career record for total points with 1600.0, eclipsing the mark of 1594.5 by Melissa Pablos (2000-03). It is the fifth career record she owns; additionally, Cintron is already the all-time leader in kills, total blocks, solo blocks, and assisted blocks.

However, for the first time in her 61-match career, Cintron did not reach double figures in kills. She <dfn><a href=GLORINELL PEREZ" src="/images/wvball/2005/10/20/10-15-05%20Glorinell%20Perez%2019.jpg" width=150 align=right border=0>finished with eight kills (8-4-17), four blocks, and three digs. Her previous low was 10 kills as a freshman. The 17 attack attempts were a season low, and the three digs a career low, as she was subbed out defensively.

LeBlanc reached double figures in kills for the ninth consecutive match, and the 18th time in 25 contests to begin her career, landing 16 winners and only three errors in 30 attempts, good for a .433 rate. She added nine digs.

In addition to the 11 kills and eight aces, Perez hit .400 with five kills (5-1-10) and had two assisted blocks. Sophomore middle blocker MEAGAN ROBERTS (Union, NJ/Union) hit .385 with eight kills (8-3-13) and three blocks. Freshman outside hitter SARAH TORRES (Elizabeth, NJ/Science) tallied six kills.

Freshman setter SOFIA GUTIERREZ (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) <dfn><a href=NATASHA BATISTA" src="/images/wvball/2005/10/20/10-15-05%20Natasha%20Batista%207.jpg" width=150 align=left border=0>delivered 24 assists, and sophomore setter NADIA DASILVA (Newark, NJ/Science) added 14 helpers.

Freshman opposite JUNIE JEAN-MARIE (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) and junior defensive specialist NATASHA BATISTA (Newark, NJ/North 13th Street Tech) each contributed two service aces.
Junior middle blocker Kelloney Thompson (Bronx, NY/Bronx Community College) totaled 12 of Lehman’s 16 kills, and had three blocks for the Lightning.

NJCU returns to action on Saturday, October 22 at 12 p.m. in a non-conference home match against John Jay College.
