MAHWAH, NJ…Ramapo College had a 19-0 shots margin while building a 2-0 halftime lead, and outshot New Jersey City University 28-4 overall, as the Roadrunners defeated the Gothic Knights, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s soccer game on Sunday.

               

With the loss, NJCU falls to 4-13-0 on the season and 0-8-0 in the NJAC. Ramapo improves to 8-5-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the league. The game was a make-up of an October 12 rainout. In all, 30 players saw action for the Roadrunners.

               

A pair of sisters gave Ramapo the eventual winning goal just 2:38 into the game, as sophomore defender Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) netted a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Chrissy Giordano (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), for her second goal of the season.

               

Junior forward Amy Ketchersid (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 edge with her second goal of the season at 22:14, off an assist from sophomore midfielder Lindsay Kotula (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan)

Ramapo capped the scoring at 77:59 of the second half when sophomore defender Ellyn Ultz (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) collected her third goal of the season, finishing a pass from her former high school teammate, junior defender Ashley Jensen (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown).

               

Ramapo outshot NJCU in the second period, 9-4. All four shots by NJCU were off the foot of sophomore midfielder KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ/Wall), and all four were on goal.

               

In defeat, sophomore goalkeeper KASANDRA ZIENIUK (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) set aside 16 shots, marking her ninth career game with double-digit saves.

               

Sophomore keeper Samantha Gribben (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock) earned the victory, although she was unchallenged in net while playing the first half for Ramapo. Senior Christy Turner (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) stopped four shots in the second half.

               

NJCU will conclude its NJAC schedule when it returns to action on Wednesday, October 26 at 3 p.m., with a home contest against William Paterson University at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
