CHRIS ROSENTHAL (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) scored twice and added three assists to increase his career points total to 99, while freshman forward

LAURENS APUY (Wallington, NJ/Wallington) each scored twice, as
New Jersey City University hammered the College of Staten Island, 9-0, in a non-conference game. NJCU outshot CSI, 44-3.
NJCU improves to 9-3 overall with its 16th win in 19 games, and leads the all-time series, 14-7-3 since 1978. The Dolphins fall to 4-4-2. In the last two years, NJCU has outscored CSI, 17-1. NJCU led 5-0 at halftime. In all, 26 players saw action for the Gothic Knights in the rout.

Rosenthal, who entered the game as NJCU’s all-time leader in goals (39) and points (92), just missed becoming the first member of the 100-point club, as he increased his totals to 41 goals and 99 points. Rosenthal now has 40 goals in his last 36 contests. After missing much of the early weeks of the season with injuries, Rosenthal now has 19 points (seven goals, five assists) in only eight games, and 11 points in his last three games. He is second on the team in scoring.

Espinoza gave NJCU a 1-0 lead just 1:52 into the contest off an assist from Rosenthal, and added his second goal at 10:01, courtesy of another Rosenthal helper.

EDISON BILBAO tallied his second goal of the season at 25:07, from

Carpio notched his sixth goal of the season at 35:06, with

Palumbo earning double assists, as the Knights extended the lead to 5-0 at the break.
Garcia’s fourth goal of the season at 46:25, gave
Fontán his first career point.
Apuy bagged his first goal of the year at 78:15 as
Rosenthal contributed his third assist, the 17
th of his career, for a 7-0 edge. Just 1:23 later,

Freshman goalkeeper
RAFAEL ZABALA II (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made his second career start and registered his first career shutout, without needing to make a save. It was NJCU’s sixth shutout in 12 games this year.
Senior Val Osmani (Staten Island, NY/Wagner) made nine saves in a five-goal first half. Sophomore Ronald Btesh (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Yeshiva Ramban) played the second half, stopping 10 shots, with four goals against.
NJCU is off until Saturday, October 8 when it hosts St. Joseph’s College (LI) at 1 p.m. at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
