CAMDEN, NJ…Sophomore middle blocker
LIZZELLE CINTRON (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) amassed 14 kills, 16 digs, and five blocks (four assisted) and closed within 22 kills of becoming the program’s leader, as the
New Jersey City University women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten and in first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference by sweeping Rutgers University-Camden, 30-19, 30-10, 30-9 on Tuesday night.
NJCU improved to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC with its 10th win in 11 matches. Camden falls to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in the league. The third game was a forfeit when the Raptors lost a player and were out of legal substitutions trailing, 28-9. NJCU leads the all-time series 11-0, all via sweeps.
It is only the second time in school history NJCU has won four or more conference matches in a season, winning five in 2002 when it went 5-3. With three regular season matches remaining, the Gothic Knights have guaranteed their second winning NJAC record in program history.
Cintron’s 14 kills give her 1122 for her career, leaving her only 21 shy of equaling the program record of 1143 achieved by Melissa Pablos in a four-year career from 2000-03. With 152 solo blocks, she is only six shy of that career record. She only had one error in 23 attempts and hit .565 in the match.
Freshman outside hitter
JACQUELINE LeBLANC (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), the NJAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, collected 11 kills (11-2-24) to hit .375, adding eight digs, while freshman setter
