JERSEY CITY, NJ…Rutgers-Newark received 15 points and seven steals from sophomore forward Toni Roselli (Garfield, NJ/St. Mary’s) and 10 points, seven defensive rebounds and five assists from sophomore guard Sabrina Sanchez (Keasbey, NJ/Woodbridge) and did not trail after gaining a lead at 3:03 of the first half, en route to a 65-51 victory over New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s basketball game at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
The Scarlet Raiders win their second straight and improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. After beginning the season 2-0, the Knights fall to 2-2 and 0-2 in the league.

ARNESE GOODMAN (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) compiled a monster double-double with 16 points (6-14 FG) and 13 rebounds (10 defensive), while dishing four assists.

NATASHIA CLACKLEY (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) added 15 points (6-13 FG) and four rebounds. Junior point guard
LATRESE McNAIR (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) finished with eight points (4-12 FG), six assists and three steals. Senior power forward
MEGAN KABBA (Newark, NJ/Arts) hauled in eight rebounds.
Roselli shot 5-of-9 from the field for the Raiders and converted 3-of-7 from three-point range, with a game-high seven steals. Senior center Christyal Anderson (Newark, NJ/University) grabbed double digits in rebounds for the fourth straight game, seizing 10, and adding nine points, despite committing 10 turnovers. Sanchez made 4-of-7 shots including 2-of-4 from three.
Also for the Raiders, sophomore forward Eni Fageyinbo (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) nearly tallied a double-double, scoring nine (4-10 FG) with nine points and four assists. Freshman guard Youngor Kehleay (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) had nine points, five rebounds, and three steals.
There were four ties and three lead chances in the first half, including 20-20 at 3:22. Five straight points by Anderson helped Newark reel off a 7-0 run, and the visitors led by five at the half, 27-22.
A Clackley steal and fast-break bucket trimmed the R-N lead to one at 18:47, before Newark broke the game open. A trey by Roselli at 14:55 made it a nine-point game, 36-27. After a Goodman lay-up made the score 39-33, an 11-0 spurt by R-N allowed the Raiders to surge ahead by 17, 50-33. Fageyinbo scored six straight points during the advantage. The Raiders’ largest margin was 22, a 63-41 score after Sanchez sank a three.
Although R-N had more turnovers (23-20), it also owned the advantage in points off miscues, 22-16. R-N finished shooting 43.3 percent (23-53), including 48.1 percent in the second period (13-27). NJCU made 21-of-63 from the field (33.3%) but only 2-of-13 from deep (15.4%).
NJCU returns to action with a rare Friday contest when it visits Rowan University on December 2 for a 6 pm NJAC game in Glassboro. R-N next plays on Saturday, December 3 at 5:30 pm in a home game against Montclair State University.
