AARON DESIR (Hillside, NJ/Hillside) of the
New Jersey City University men’s basketball team has been selected as
the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after coming off the bench to notch a team-high nine points in only 11 minutes, as the Gothic Knights won their sixth consecutive game, 68-59, over Farmingdale State University on December 15.
NJCU, the first place team in the NJAC heading into the holiday break, has begun a season with a 7-2 record for the second time in three years. The award is the first men’s basketball honor the team has received from the conference this season.
In the win over FSU, Desir sank two of three (.667) from three-point range and converted 3-of-4 at the free-throw line, finishing with the career-high nine points. All three shots he attempted were three-pointers.
Desir, who has played in five of NJCU’s nine game, and has averaged 7.4 minutes of reserve time per contest, has made the most of his opportunity. He is averaging 3.2 points per game while shooting .556 (5-9) from the field, .500 (3-6) from three-point range, and .750 (3-4) from the line thus far in 2005-06.
