JERSEY CITY, NJ…#ERIC ALVAREZ#, a second-year assistant baseball coach at
New Jersey City University, has been promoted to head recruiting coordinator for the program, 17
th-year head coach
Ken Heaton has announced.
Alvarez, who has served as the assistant recruiting coordinator to
Dan Olear, will continue in his role as the team’s first base coach.
Olear resigned this month to become head coach at Hudson Catholic High School.
Alvarez, a resident of Elizabeth, NJ who served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2004 campaign after having his career cut short with a season-ending should injury, played a major role in the success of the 2005 club. That team had more than 20 freshmen on the roster, and despite starting at least seven rookies on any given day, advanced to the ECAC Semifinals for the first time in 19 years and only the fourth time ever, after finishing as the CUNYAC runner-up.
When he was hired in September 2004, Heaton said: “Eric brings a tireless work ethic to the program, on and off the field. He is relentless in his pursuit to bring quality athletes into our program.”
