LIZZELLE CINTRON POSTS TRIPLE-DOUBLE AS NJCU DOWNS ST. JOE’S, 3-1

- Lizzelle Cintron did something she's amazingly never done before: posted a triple-double.

PATCHOGUE, NY…Sophomore middle blocker LIZZELLE CINTRON (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth), the 2004 NCAA Division III national kills and kills per game leader, recorded the first triple-double of her already noteworthy career, as she notched 15 kills, 21 digs, and 11 blocks, and added three service aces, as New Jersey City University defeated St. Joseph’s College (LI), 3-1, by scores of 27-30, 30-24, 30-19, 30-26 at Danzi Athletic Center, late Friday night.
 
NJCU improves to 2-2 on the season, while St. Joe’s falls to 0-4 overall, with all losses coming against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents. NJCU leads the all-time series, 11-7, with five consecutive victories since 2004.
 
Cintron posted 15 kills (15-7-40), and despite an off night in percentage (.200), the second lowest of her career, she stuffed a career best 11 blocks, including five solo.
 
Meanwhile, sophomore outside hitter GLORINELL PEREZ (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) had the best night of her career, as she landed a career-best 14 kills (14-5-28), hit .321, and added 21 digs and four aces.
 
Freshman outside hitter SARAH TORRES (Elizabeth, NJ/Science) was errorless at the net, with <dfn><a href=GLORINELL PEREZ" src="/images/wvball/2005/9/10/09-23-04%20Glorinell%20Perez%2017.jpg" width=150 align=left border=0>eight kills in 15 swings, for a .533 hitting percentage, and added five assisted blocks and 15 digs.
 
Sophomore middle blocker MEAGAN ROBERTS (Union, NJ/Union) tallied 11 kills (11-3-20) and hit .400, while freshman outside hitter JACQUELINE LeBLANC (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) finished with nine kills (9-6-31), and defended 20 digs with two blocks and two aces.
 
Sophomore setter NADIA DaSILVA (Newark, NJ/Science) distributed 23 assists, while freshman setter SOFIA GUTIERREZ (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) contributed 16 assists, 11 digs, and three aces. Rookie libero LYANELLY NEGRON (Union, NJ/Union) provided 18 digs.
 
With a difficult tournament schedule on the books this season, NJCU will look to perform well when it returns to action on Friday, September 16 in the Scranton University Tournament in Scranton, PA. NJCU will face Wilkes University at 4pm, followed by York College (PA) at 6 pm.
