JERSEY CITY, NJ…Junior forward
Aubree McDermott (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) scored what proved to the game-winning goal in the 37
th minute and assisted on two other tallies, as Rutgers University-Camden grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead and defeated
New Jersey City University, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s soccer game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
NJCU falls to 1-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the NJAC, while Camden (5-4-0, 1-2-0 NJAC), which leads the all-time series 6-0, snaps a two-game losing skid. Camden outshot NJCU, 24-10, including 15-4 in the second half after the first period was closely played, with the Scarlet Raptors owning a 9-6 edge in attempts.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Therese Comella (Delran, NJ/Delran) stopped five shots, and was aided by the crossbar on several other shots, in recording her fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore
ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), NJCU’s third keeper, was outstanding in her first collegiate start in net, smothering eight shots.
McDermott put the Raptors ahead to stay at 36:41, as she received a thru ball from midfield from freshman midfielder Allyson Jones (Audubon, NJ/Audubon), and on a 1-on-1 breakaway, lofted a shot over the NJCU keeper. It was her fourth goal of the season and Jones’ second assist.
Senior forward Katlyn Pagaduan (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) added a second goal heading into halftime as she netted her first goal of the season at 44:02. McDermott was credited with her fourth assist of the season as her thru ball from the left wing created a 1-on-1 breakaway.
Senior defender Erin Boiler (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross) finalized the Camden scoring at 56:18, when she chipped her fourth goal of the season over a charging NJCU keeper, off another thru ball from midfield by McDermott, her fifth assist and team-leading 13th point.

KATIE FEEHAN" src="/images/wsoccer/2005/9/24/09-16-05%20Katie%20Feehan%2014.jpg" width=150 align=left border=0>NJCU nearly took a 1-0 lead at 17:46 of the first half as sophomore midfielder
KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ/Wall), who led the Knights with four shots, including three on goal, banked a chance off the right side of the crossbar, for her only shot that was not saved. At 26:55, she lifted a high shot from the right wing that
Comella needed to leap and deflect off the crossbar.
The crossbar wasn’t friendly to Camden’s offense either. RC nearly scored its first goal at 31:26, as junior midfielder Katie O’Connor (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) struck a shot in the box that nailed the crossbar. NJCU escaped that threat with no defenders within 10 yards on the Raptor breakaway.
Chisari’s aggressive goalkeeping style also prevented more Camden offense. At 40:43 she made a great diving save to stop a McDermott breakaway. At 46:59, she charged to the top of the box and smothered a breakaway shot by Jones. At 69:10, she leaped to deflect a shot by sophomore forward Brittney Mancine (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) off the crossbar. Chisari also charged and made a nice stop on a shot from the right wing by Jones.
It was a physical game, as a combined 30 fouls were called and five yellow cards issued.
NJCU returns to action on Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm in a road NJAC game against Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. Camden hosts Rutgers-Newark at the same time and date.
