MONTCLAIR, NJ…Senior forward Jess Amendola (Union, NJ/Union) tallied two goals and two assists as Montclair State climbed back to the .500 mark with a 5-0 victory over New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s soccer match at Sprague Field on Wednesday night.

NJCU falls to 1-8-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the NJAC with its eighth straight loss, while MSU improves to 5-5-0 and 2-2-0 in the league. MSU has won 10 straight in the series, and lead it 11-1. MSU held a 21-2 advantage in shots, and did not allow NJCU an attempt in the second half.

Also for MSU, senior midfielder Kaylan Van Brookhoven (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) had a goal and an assist, and junior forward Laura Johnson (North Wales, PA/North Penn) added two assists.

In defeat, NJCU sophomore ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), NJCU’s third keeper, made her second career start and again played well, making nine saves. Junior keeper Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made one save as she recorded her second straight shutout and fifth of the season.

Sophomore Maureen Shockley (Magnolia, NJ/Triton) put MSU ahead to stay at 12:03, with her first goal of the season. Van Brookhoven put the ball toward the net where Amendola made a one-touch pass to Shockley, who banged home the shot into the right side. It was a double assist on the score.

Senior forward Ruby Russell (Torrance, CA/South) notched her third goal of the season just 21 seconds before halftime as she knocked in a pass from Amendola to give MSU a 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Amendola scored the first of her two tallies at the 61:40 mark and Van Brookhoven followed four minutes later with her second of the year as MSU built a 4-0 lead. Amendola capped the scoring with her second of the game and sixth of the season at 70:49 off an assist from Johnson—the second time that duo teamed up for a goal in the contest.

NJCU returns to action on Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Rutgers University-Newark in a NJAC game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
