PATCHOGUE, NY…St. Joseph’s College received two goals from freshman forward Courtney Caden (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and outshot New Jersey City University, 26-5, in scoring a 5-0 victory over the Gothic Knights, at the Gregg Alfano Field.
The loss was the first for NJCU (1-1), coming off an 8-0 win in its season opener on September 3. SJC, which leads the all-time series, 7-0, improves to 1-3 overall on the season. The Golden Eagles led 3-0 at the half.
Junior Leah Taglia (Seaford, NY/Seaford) scored the eventual game-winner at 17:03 when she headed in a cross from freshman defender Alyssa Cote (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) for her first goal of the year.
Caden increased the lead to 2-0 at 26:15 with her second goal of the season, as she scored on a breakaway 1-on-1 play against the NJCU keeper, off a feed from junior midfielder Erika Raimo (Smithtown, NY/St. Anthony’s). Caden was credited with her second goal of the game at 31:25, when her shot deflected into the NJCU net off of a Gothic Knight defender, for an own goal.
Freshman defender Jessica Durant (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) notched her first career goal at 51:42, off a pass from sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Jentz (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) to make it 4-0. Senior defender Christine Argentina (Selden, NY/Newfield) capped the scoring at 65:35, with an assist credited to Dana Reoch.

NJCU will look to return to the win column on Saturday, September 10 at 1pm when it faces Medaille College in the Medaille College Tournament in Buffalo, NY. It will be the first tournament for the NJCU women since 1998.
