JERSEY CITY, NJ…The College of New Jersey, the No. 8 ranked team in Division III by both D3Kicks.com and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, had 10 different players score at least one goal, and outshot New Jersey City University, 42-0, en route to a 13-0 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s soccer game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
TCNJ clinches the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament and the conference regular season championship with the victory.
TCNJ (12-1-2, 7-0-1 NJAC), the defending NJAC champions and 2005 national runners-up, remain unbeaten in the conference. Since the beginning of the 2005 season, the Lions are now 34-2-2 with 31 shutouts. NJCU (3-14-0, 0-8-0 NJAC) drops its fifth straight game.
Overall, all 28 TCNJ players in uniform saw at least seven minutes of action, including all four goalkeepers on the roster. The game was 70 minutes in length.
The Lions received three goals and one assist for eight points from sophomore midfielder Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood), and two goals and one assist from freshman forward Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).
Sophomore midfielder Nicole Papola (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), and freshmen midfielders Momoko Aoe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ/Northern Highlands) and Kristina Shemming (Cranbury, NJ/West Windsor South) each contributed a goal and an assist.
Junior forward Christine Mullin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 1:19 into the contest. TCNJ also received single goals from junior forward Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hills NJ/Cherry Hill East), sophomore forward Allie Schilling (Somerdale, NJ/Triton), freshman forward Kelly Feeney (Rahway, NJ/Mother Seton Regional), and junior defender Jenn Olszewski (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial).
TCNJ had eight players record assists, led by junior midfielder Christine Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex Regional), who notched two helpers. The Lions received single assists from junior midfielder Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and junior forward Beth Pagano (Trenton, NJ/Notre Dame).
Freshman Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), sophomore Amy Hashem (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South), sophomore Kristina Kuda (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford), and freshman Victoria McDermott (Sewell, NJ/Clearview Regional) split the action in net to combine for a shutout, without a save.
NJCU senior
REEM HANA (Iselin, NJ/JFK Memorial) made her first career appearance in goal, and registered 16 saves in 45 minutes of action. Junior
ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) stopped two shots in the final 25 minutes.
TCNJ had a 32-0 edge in shots on goal. The Lions outshot NJCU in the first half, 33-0, and had a 6-0 lead at the break. TCNJ scored seven times on nine second-half shots. The Lions were whistled for 10 offsides.
NJCU will close the 2006 NJAC schedule on Wednesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. when it visits Rutgers University-Camden. TCNJ hosts Rowan University that night at 7:30 p.m.
