NEWBURGH, NY…Junior midfielder KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ/Wall) netted the third hat trick of her career, as the New Jersey City University women’s soccer team took a 2-1 lead to halftime and tacked on four goals in the second period, en route to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Mount Saint Mary College (NY), late Tuesday night.

With the win, NJCU improves to 3-8-0 overall, snapping a three-game losing streak. The Blue Knights fall to 4-6-0 overall, losing for a fourth consecutive outing. MSMC leads the all-time series, 6-3-1, but NJCU has won two straight in the series by a combined 13-1 margin.

In addition to her third career hat trick, Feehan collected her seventh career multiple-goal effort. When she scored to give NJCU a 2-0 lead, she broke the school record for career game-winning goals with five. Now with 26 career netters, she is two shy of matching the program record of 28 achieved by CARINE CARVALHEIRO from 2001-05.

Senior midfielder REEM HANA (Iselin, NJ/JFK Memorial) contributed a goal and an assist, while freshman defender BARBARA D’AGOSTA (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) and junior defender ANA EUCEDA (Union City, NJ/Union Hill) each added single goals. Junior midfielder NINA CELUCH (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Conception (Lodi)) added an assist for the Knights.

Freshman forward Danielle Bucco (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) scored the lone goal for MSMC.

Junior keeper ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) stopped eight shots to register the win for the Gothic Knights. MSMC had a pair of keepers split the action. Sophomore Shannon Colligan (East Northport, NY/John Glenn) made two saves in the first half, while sophomore Jessica Thibault (Watertown, CT/Sacred Heart) stopped eight shots in the second period.

NJCU outshot the Blue Knights, 33-14, highlighted by a 21-5 barrage in the second half. NJCU also had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

NJCU jumped ahead less than seven minutes into the game, as Celuch intercepted a goal kick, one-touched a pass to D’Agosta who fired in the first points of her collegiate career at 6:41. It was Celuch’s first point of the season.

Feehan made it 2-0 at 26:27, when she planted a free kick from 25 yards out into the back of the net, for her second goal of the season. Less than six minutes later, MSMC drew within 2-1 when Bucco’s cross from the right wing sailed in at 31:55.

But NJCU took control in the second half to put the game away. At 52:47, a corner kick by Hana struck a MSMC defender and the momentum of the shot carried the ball into the net, as she received credit for her third goal of the season.

Feehan followed with a pair of unassisted goals in less than two minutes—her third and fourth tallies of the season. At 66:52, she finished a 50-yard breakaway for a 4-1 lead, and at 68:51, stole possession from a Blue Knight defender, resulting in a goal and a 5-1 advantage.

Euceda amassed the first points of her career at 70:32 for the third of three NJCU goals in a span of 3:40. Euceda netted her first career goal off Hana’s team-leading fifth assist of the season.
NJCU will return to action on Thursday, October 5 at 3 p.m. with a non-conference road game at The College of Staten Island.
