JERSEY CITY, NJ…Sophomore rightfielder ANTHONY MACKOW (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) slipped a bases-loaded game-winning single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the ninth inning as New Jersey City University made its return to the New Jersey Athletic Conference a winning one, with a 3-2 victory over Rutgers-Newark, at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
 
NJCU (13-9, 1-0 NJAC) wins its fifth consecutive game, while Newark falls to 9-9 and 1-1 NJAC. The Knights, in their conference opener, were playing their first NJAC game since May 4, 2004.
 
Sophomore right-hander MICHAEL McCORMICK (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) was the winner for NJCU in relief, improving to 3-0. Sophomore right-hander AHSON SHAHID (Harrison, NJ/Harrison), this week’s NJAC Pitcher of the Week, was brilliant in 8.2 innings of work, limiting the Scarlet Raiders to two runs, but received a no decision.
