JERSEY CITY, NJ…Ramapo College scored three times in each half and received a goal and two assists by senior forward Amy Ketchersid (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) in defeating New Jersey City University, 6-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women’s soccer game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. Ramapo owned a 22-1 edge in shots in the victory.

Ramapo snaps a two-game road losing streak with the win, to improve to 4-2-1 and 1-0-0 in the NJAC. It was the Roadrunners first conference game of the season following a weekend rainout. NJCU drops to 1-5-0 and 0-2-0 NJAC. RCNJ leads the all-time series, 12-1-1, with 11 straight wins. Six different RCNJ players got involved in the scoring action for the Roadrunners.

Sophomore midfielder Shana Egan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) scored her team-leading fifth goal and 10th point of the season and the eventual game-winner at 15:05 of the first half, when she took a cross from the left wing by Ketchersid, and buried a shot down the middle of the net.

Just over seven minutes later, junior midfielder Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) took advantage of a defensive giveaway in the box with the keeper out of position, and finished her third goal of the season.

Freshman forward Margaret Sciarretta (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) scored her first career goal at 37:53 when the Gothic Knight defense lost control of a loose ball in the box off a corner kick, and the rookie tapped a dribbler inside the right post. RCNJ led 3-0 at the break while holding a 15-0 margin in shots.

Less than five minutes into the second half, senior forward Dana Chiappone (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney) notched her second score of the season, as Ketchersid slid a pass from the middle of the box to the right post, which Chiappone knocked into an empty net.

After contributing assists on two goals, Ketchersid tallied her own. At 67:48, she gained possession of a loose ball from 20 yards away, raced towards the goal on the left wing, and ripped a hard shot that deflected into the net and under the crossbar off the NJCU keeper’s fingers.

Ramapo scored its final goal at 78:36, as sophomore forward Melissa Ohstrom (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) flipped a loose ball inside the right post, after an empty net was created following a collision with the NJCU keeper.

In defeat, junior goalkeeper ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) made five saves for the Knights. NJCU also had two team saves. Junior midfielder KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ/Wall) made a terrific diving clear to thwart a certain breakaway goal, and freshman defender KELSEY O’DONNELL (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) cleaned another shot off the line.

RCNJ junior keeper Samantha Gribben (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock) recorded the shutout without making a save.

NJCU will play its second home game in 24 hours when it hosts Medgar Evers College at 4 p.m. on Thursday in a non-conference contest. Ramapo next plays on Saturday, September 23 in an NJAC game at Rutgers-Newark.
