GLASSBORO, NJ…Senior forward Jackie Kane (Avenel, NJ/Woodbridge) scored a natural hattrick and freshman midfielder Krista Verzi (Delran, NJ/Delran) added two more goals as Rowan University, ranked #14 nationally by D3Kicks.com and #23 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, defeated New Jersey City University, 6-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Saturday.
Rowan remains undefeated, improving to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC, while the Gothic Knights fall to 2-6 and 0-3 NJAC. Rowan outshot NJCU, 40-1, and had a 13-1 edge in corner kicks. Rowan was whistled for 15 offsides.

ALEXIS CHISARI (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) made 18 saves for the Gothic Knights. Sophomore
Melissa Hall (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and sophomore
Alicia Mannino (Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) each played one half, with
Hall making the lone save for the Profs.
Freshman defender Ashley Schaffer (Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) recorded two assists for Rowan, and sophomore midfielder Samantha Mendek (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) also added one goal.
Kane scored the first three goals of the game with tallies at 10:56, 31:01, and 33:14. Sophomore midfielder Emilie Wilson (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and sophomore midfielder Jenna Balestriere (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) assisted on the first and third goals, respectively.
Verzi gave Rowan a 4-0 lead and its third goal in a span of 7:33 of the first half, when she scored off a pass from Schaffer at 38:34 of the first period. Mendek made it two goals within 1:13 and four in a frame of 8:46 when she completed the first half scoring with an unassisted mark at 39:47.
While Rowan outshot NJCU in the first period, 24-1, and led 5-0 at the break, a different defensive strategy worked for the Knights in the second half, as the Profs were limited to just one goal in the period. Verzi scored the final goal for Rowan at 76:35 off an assist from Schaffer. Rowan had a 16-0 edge in shots in the second half, despite mustering just one additional goal.
NJCU will return to action on Wednesday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m. when it hosts Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
