New Jersey City University opened its 18
th season of men’s volleyball with a 3-1 (30-28, 30-16, 28-30, 30-28) victory over Baruch College, in a non-conference match at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
NJCU (1-0) leads the all-time series between the schools, 15-10. Baruch (0-4) drops its sixth straight match dating to last season, including a meeting against NJCU in the ECAC semifinals.
Rodgers hit .324 (16-4-37), and Siqueira (15-3-39) had a .308 percentage. After only collecting double figures in kills just once in 24 matches as a freshman, Siqueira’s 15 kills were a career best.

MAURICE WASHINGTON (Orlando, FL/Edgewater (FL) delivered 42 assists, with six blocks and two aces, and extended his NJCU career record to 150.

ROBERT GRIFFITHS (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) added 11 kills (11-2-21, .429), six digs and two aces. Freshman middle hitter
JOSE SILVA (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) had six blocks (five assisted).
Three players reached double figures in kills for the Bearcats. Junior middle blocker Danial Levent (Forest Hills, NY/American Studies) and freshman opposite Stephen Hansen (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) each collected 16 kills, and senior middle blocker Steven Rouse (New York, NY/A.P. Randolph) added 12 kills. Freshman setter Radek Wrywas (Bialystok, Poland/Grover Cleveland) dished 45 assists.
NJCU will return to action on Saturday when it competes in a tri-match at Vassar College. The Knights will face the host Brewers at 12 p.m., followed by a non-conference match with Polytechnic University at 2 p.m.
