MADISON, NJ…New Jersey City University, known for its offensive prowess in women’s volleyball, found a new way to dominate, combining for 46 services aces in two matches, as the Gothic Knights swept St. Joseph’s College, 3-0 (30-16, 30-11, 30-27), and defeated Manhattanville College, 3-0 (30-15, 30-13, 30-15), in pool play action late Friday in the Devils’ Classic, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at Ferguson Recreation Center.
With the win, NJCU improves to 17-4 on the season. St. Joseph’s fell to 4-14, as the Knights defeated SJC for the 11th consecutive meeting since 2004, to take a 17-7 all-time lead in the series. NJCU, which met Manhattanville (1-12) for the first time since 2002, leads that series, 4-3. With 20 aces against St. Joe’s and 26 against the Valiants, it marked the 13th and 14th time in program history the club has had at least 20 aces in a match.
Senior #NADIA DaSILVA DUCOS# (Newark, NJ/Science) recorded 24 assists in two matches to become the first player in program history to register 2,500 career assists.

MICHELLE CINTRON (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) led the team with 12 kills (12-2-29) for a .345 percentage. Senior middle blocker
LIZZELLE CINTRON (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) only played the first two games of the match, finishing with nine kills (9-3-15) for a .400 percentage, 15 digs and four aces, as she increased her career kills mark to 2,625. She was one of four players with multiple aces, as the team finished with 20.

ALEX JOHANESEN (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had 12 assists and five aces, freshman defensive specialist
THERESA CARVALHO (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) uncorked five more aces and sophomore outside hitter

NJCU meets New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Montclair State University on October 6 in the final match of pool play prior to the playoff round. NJCU will be seeking to win its second tournament in three outings this year.
