New Jersey City University (27-30, 30-27, 30-23, 26-30, 16-14), in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division match, Sunday at Stevenson Gymnasium.
NJCU falls to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the league while Bard improves to 4-2 and 3-1. NJCU, which swept Bard in the first meeting between the schools in Jersey City on January 30, now leads the all-time series, 12-3, and has won 12 of the last 14 meetings.
Both NJCU and Bard were scheduled to also face Yeshiva University as part of a divisional tri-match. Due to travel problems, the other matches were postponed; the Knights will face Yeshiva as part of a doubleheader on February 11.
Rodgers recorded his second 20-kill match of his career, notching 20 (20-9-51, .216) and 17 digs, while Siqueira, who hit .417 overall, achieved career highs for kills (19-4-36) and digs with 19 of each. Griffiths hit .419 with 14 kills (14-1-31), 18 digs, five assists and two blocks.
Senior setter
MAURICE WASHINGTON (Orlando, FL/Edgewater (FL) dished 60 assists, marking the fourth time he has collected that in a single match. He added eight blocks (six assisted), six digs and five kills (5-2-10, .300).
Freshman middle hitter
JOSE SILVA (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) landed 13 kills for a .333 attack rate (13-5-24) and added five assisted blocks. Freshman middle hitter
DANIEL CRESPO (Paterson, NJ/Clifton) chipped in 10 digs and six assisted blocks.
Overall, NJCU combined for 14.0 blocks and hit .311 as a team with 73 kills (73-23-161). But Bard hit .324 overall with 82 winners (82-22-185).
Four Raptors reached double figures in kills and three had double-doubles, including senior outside hitter Dylan Cummins (Aptos, CA/Mount Madonna) and junior outside hitter Zachary Hamaker (Walnut Creek, CA/Las Lomas), who combined for 52 kills.
Cummins had 27 kills and hit .357 (27-7-56) with 19 digs and two aces, while Hamaker added 25 winners (25-5-58) and a .345 percentage, with 12 digs. Freshman setter Steven Alday (Phoenix, AZ/St. Mary’s) delivered 69 assists and three aces. Henry Harper tallied 15 kills and a .414 attack rate (15-3-29). Henry Schenker finished with 13 kills and 10 digs.
NJCU will return to action on Thursday, February 8 when it visits the City College of New York in a non-conference match at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY.
