MAHWAH, NJ…New Jersey City University freshman striker JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) scored two more goals, her 11th and 12th of the season in only the sixth game of the year to draw within two goals of equaling the single-season school scoring record, but Ramapo College opened the game with a 7-0 lead and prevailed 8-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Wednesday.

NJCU dropped consecutive games for the first time this season (3-3-0, 0-2-0 NJAC), while Ramapo improved to 5-4-0 and 1-1-0 in the league.

Albuja scored two goals in a span of 3:09 in the second half to give her 12 goals and 24 points overall. She is already tied for eighth in school history in goals early in her rookie season. Her 12 goals are tied for third in single-season history—two shy of Kelly Daly’s 2005 record of 14. Her 24 points are fourth in single-season history.

Sophomore forward MEAGHAN LIPYANKA (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) assisted on NJCU’s first goal. Sophomore midfielder DEIRDRE D’ERRICO (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) added the other assist. It was each player’s first assist of the season.

Ramapo led 4-0 at the half and outshot NJCU 28-5 overall. Only one of RCNJ’s eight goals was credited with an assist. The Roadrunners received first half goals from freshman Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), senior midfielder Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), sophomore midfielder Jenny Paglia (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) and freshman forward Brittney Harraka (Clifton, NJ/Clifton).

In the second half, RCNJ scored three times for a 7-0 lead as freshman forward Lisa Pacillo (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), sophomore forward Jackie Eckstein (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and junior forward Melissa Ohstrom (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) all tallied goals.  Ohstrom, the only Ramapo player with multiple goals, also scored the final tally for the 8-2 final, after Albuja had netted two,

In defeat, NJCU freshman goalkeeper KELLY REILLY (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) made a career-high 13 saves. RCNJ sophomore Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) had three saves.

NJCU is back in action on Thursday, September 20 at 4 p.m. with a road non-conference game against Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY.
