NJCU (4-2-1) remains unbeaten in five consecutive games and after defeating Methodist University, 4-0, in the opening round of the tournament, claims the championship of the event based on a 1-0-1 record and +4 goal differential. CNU (4-1-1) also was 1-0-1 in the tournament, and had a +2 differential after a 3-1 win on day one against The College of New Jersey. It was the second meeting between NJCU and the Captains in men's soccer; CNU leads 1-0-1. An All-Tournament Team was not selected.
Overall for NJCU, it was the 191st shutout in program history and the 11th time a game has ended tied 0-0 and the first time since October 19, 2002.
Overall, CNU outshot NJCU 10-6, including 3-0 on goal. It was the first time since records for shots on goal began being kept in 2001 that the Knights failed to land a shot on target. Each team had five first-half shots, with CNU outshooting NJCU 3-1 in the second period and 1-0 in each overtime. NJCU did not attempt a shot after the 66:59 mark of the second half.
McCormick, who is usually a starting defender, and had only played keeper in practice situations during his three-year career, prior to posting a shutout against Methodist on Saturday, again held an opponent scoreless, making three saves—including one in each overtime session—for the third team shutout this season. Junior keeper Matt Tengs (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) did not make a save while recording his first shutout.
Senior
