JERSEY CITY, NJ…Sophomore forward JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) scored three goals to tie the career scoring record with 92 points in just 24 career games, and New Jersey City University received two goals apiece fromsenior center midfielder MEGAN MURPHY (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), freshman midfielder ABBY PALMATEER (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville (NY)) and sophomore forward JUANITA SARRIA (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) as the Gothic Knights sank Maritime College (NY), 11-0, in a non-conference game at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
NJCU remains perfect on the season at 6-0-0, continuing the best start to a season in program history. NJCU leads the all-time series with Maritime (0-6-0), 2-0, with a 17-0 goals differential.
NJCU, which led 8-0 at halftime, outshot the Privateers, 38-5, including 24-1 in the opening period. The 11 goal margin of victory tied for second highest in a game in program history.
NJCU sophomore keeper KELLY REILLY (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial), who needed just one save to extend her own program record with her ninth career shutout, tied the program record of 13 career victories, set by Michelle Vance from 1993-94.
Albuja scored three times in just 40 minutes of action to give her 19 goals in six games this season and 43 in 24 career games. Along with six career assists, she has 92 points, equaling the women's career record of 92 points set by current assistant coach KATIE FEEHAN (Manasquan, NJ) in a four-year career from 2004-07.
Albuja notched her fifth hat trick of the season and eighth in her sensational career, while notching her 13th career multiple-goal effort. She extended her own program record with her eighth career game-winning goal. She scored the first, fourth, and 10th goals of the game.
Murphy, who had just one goal last season, scored two in less than 20 minutes in the first half, tallying the third and sixth goals for NJCU. Palmateer scored the first two goals of her career in a span of 2:24 in the first half, accounting for the fifth and seventh goals of the game. Sarria scored the ninth and 11th goals in reserve time, giving her four netters this season, and added an assist for a five-point showing.
Freshman ABIE MUSA (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere) scored the second goal of the game for her second tally of the season, and added two assists for a four-point day. Sophomore defender ASHLEY WELCH (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) scored NJCU's other goal, adding one assist.
Freshman forward NICOLE SARICA (Linden, NJ/Linden) contributed a pair of assists, including one on Albuja's first goal just 7:54 into the contest, giving her six assists on the season. Freshman midfielder NICOLE SWEENEY (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) added her second assist of the season.
In defeat, freshman Alicia Schmidt (Montville, CT/Montville) made seven saves in net for the Privateers in the first half, while freshman Katie Caruso (Ossining, NY/Good Counsel Academy) had four second-half stops.
Several of NJCU's goals came in quick spurts. Musa (13:47) and Murphy (14:26) accounted for NJCU's second and third goal in a span of 39 seconds. Albuja (32:06) and Palmateer (32:54) scored the Knights' fourth and fifth goals within 48 seconds. Murphy (34:19) and Palmateer (35:18) scored the sixth and seventh goals in 59 seconds, as NJCU compiled three goals in 2:13 and four goals in 3:12.
NJCU will put its unblemished mark on the line on Saturday, September 20 at 2 p.m. when it faces Richard Stockton College in Pomona, NJ in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
