HATCH BREAKS OUT AS NJCU WINS 12TH CONSECUTIVE NJAC REGULAR SEASON MATCH WITH SWEEP OF RUTGERS-NEWARK

- Jennifer Hatch was errorless in 20 swings to pace the Knights.

Junior middle blocker JENNIFER HATCH (Paterson, NJ/Mary Help of Christians Academy) continued her break-out season with 10 kills without an error for a .500 hitting percentage (10-5-20), and she combined with senior middle blocker SARAH TORRES (Elizabeth, NJ/Science) and senior outside hitter JENNIFER CARVALHO (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) for 28 of NJCU's 35 kills, as New Jersey City University won its 12th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season match with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark (25-10, 25-11, 25-15), in the NJAC opener for both schools on Tuesday night at the Golden Dome.

NJCU improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 NJAC, and has won six of the last seven meetings with the Scarlet Raiders (0-12, 0-1 NJAC). Newark still leads the all-time series, 31-7.

Sophomore setter #ALEX JOHANESEN# (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) guided the NJCU offense to a .342 hitting percentage (35-9-76), posting 30 assists along with three of NJCU's 11 aces.
Torres hit .400 with nine kills (9-3-15), while Carvalho had nine kills (9-2-20), hit .350, and added five digs and three aces.

Senior outside hitter JACQUELINE LeBLANC (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), the NJAC Player of the Week for the second straight week, only needed to add six digs and four kills in two sets.

Freshman outside hitter Toni Moppert (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) and sophomore middle blocker Crystal Navarro (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) had four kills each for the Scarlet Raiders. Moppert tied junior libero Val Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) with a match-high nine digs.

NJCU had 15 kills for a .433 team percentage in set one (15-2-30) and a .455 attack rate behind 11 kills in set two (11-1-22), hitting .442 (26-3-52) through the first two periods.

NJCU returns to action on Thursday, September 18 at 7 p.m. when it visits Farmingdale State College in a non-conference match in Farmingdale, NY.
