POMONA, NJ…Richard Stockton College received two goals from sophomore forward Amanda Altman (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) and junior midfielder Courtney Dougherty (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) added a goal and an assist as the Ospreys extended their unbeaten streak to seven consecutive games, while handing New Jersey City University its first loss of the season, 4-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Saturday. It was the 2008 NJAC opener for both schools.
In defeat, NJCU received two unassisted goals from freshman ABIE MUSA (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere), her third and fourth tallies of the season.
Stockton, which also won its fourth consecutive game, improved to 7-1-1 and 1-0-0 NJAC; the Gothic Knights fell to 6-1-0 (0-1-0 NJAC). Stockton leads the all-time series, 14-0. Musa's two goals were the first the Knights have scored in the series, and the two-goal margin was the second closest final outcome. Stockton, which led 1-0 at the half, outshot NJCU in the contest, 15-2.
Stockton took a 1-0 lead at 16:50 when sophomore midfielder Shelley Gibney (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) scored her second goal of the year off a feed from Dougherty, who tallied her third assist.
Moments into the second half, Dougherty made it 2-0, scoring her fourth goal of the year at 47:54 on a penalty kick.
Altman, who entered as a reserve, made it 3-0 at 66:49 off a pass from senior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Hackettstown, NJ/Mt. Olive), before adding her eighth goal of the season on an unassisted play at 71:37.
Musa got the Knights on the board at 74:01 when she headed a cross, missing the initial attempt. She finished the play while knocking in her own miss. Musa added a second goal just before the game expired, knocking in a shot at 89:37. When the opposing keeper tried to cut off her possession, she lofted a shot from 18 yards out on the right side into the left side of the net.
NJCU sophomore keeper KELLY REILLY (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) made three saves in 78:37 of action before junior keeper DANIELLE BARKER (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) made one stop in the final 11:23.
Senior Alex Rogers (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) played 70:36 in net for Stockton before senior Danielle Nettleton (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) played the final 19:24 minutes, allowing both goals. RSC did not have a save.
NJCU opens its home NJAC schedule on Wednesday, September 24 at 4 p.m. against Kean University.
