, NJThe College of New Jersey posted assists on 22 of 27 baskets and had three players in double figures as the Lions defeated New Jersey City University, 66-48, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Packer Hall.

With the win, TCNJ improves to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC with its sixth consecutive victory. The Gothic Knights drop to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the league. TCNJ leads the all-time series, 44-3.

Junior center Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) had a game and career-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds and four assists to lead TCNJ. Sophomore forward Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) posted a double-double of 14 points (7-16 FG) and a game-high 10 rebounds with three assists. The Lions also received 12 points and six rebounds on 3-of-8 three-point shooting from senior guard Alyssa Michella (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).

Freshman forward EBONY CUNNINGHAM (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) led NJCU with 14 points (7-13 FG), seven rebounds and four steals in 36 minutes. Freshman point guard LASHAWN OVERTON (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder) collected 12 points (5-23 FG) and five steals while playing a full 40 minutes for the second straight game.

Also for the Knights, junior guard CAROLINA GARCIA (Plainfield, NJ/ Franklin) had seven points and three assists while junior forward TIFFANY ADAMS (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) had a career-high seven points with five boards. Junior forward SHAYLA DANIELS (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) finished with seven rebounds, five points, five steals and three blocks.

Trailing 16-2 with 12:17 left in the first half, the Knights were able to close the game to within 16-10 on an Overton three-pointer, before the Lions scored 16 of the next 20 points and opened up a comfortable margin, eventually prevailing by 18. TCNJ led 36-16 at the half and had its largest lead, 59-25 (34 points) with 10:18 remaining in the second half. 

NJCU, which shot .299 overall (20-67) but just .188 from three-point range (3-16), was able to force the Lions into 22 turnovers. The Knights scored 23 of their 48 points off of giveaways. TCNJ out-rebounded NJCU, 49-35 and shot .443 (27-61) for the game. The Lions scored 40 of their 66 points in the paint.

NJCU returns to action on Monday, January 12 at 6 p.m. when it hosts New York City College of Technology in a non-conference game at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on Charlie Brown Court.
