JERSEY CITY, NJ…Kean University shot 53.0 percent overall (35-66) and 63.6 percent in the first half (21-33), demonstrating why the Cougars were ranked #1 in Division III in December and the two-time defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champions, as KU defeated
New Jersey City University, 93-46, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's game on Saturday at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on Charlie Brown Court.
Kean, currently ranked #24 nationally in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll and previously the #1 ranked teamed by D3Hoops.com on December 8, wins its fourth straight to improve to 13-3 overall while remaining perfect in the league (6-0). Kean is now 27-5 in NJAC games during its title run and defense. The loss for NJCU drops the Gothic Knights to 4-11 and 1-4 NJAC. Kean leads the all-time series, 42-8.

LASHAWN OVERTON (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder), a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week, scored a game-high 21 points (9-25 FG) with three steals in 40 minutes. She continues to average 20.2 points per game in five NJAC contests and is the league's leading scorer in conference action.
Kean, which has won six out of its last seven games, placed five players in double figures, led by junior forward Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain West), who had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore forward Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) had a double-double of 15 points (5-12 FG), 11 rebounds (eight defensive), three blocks and three steals.
Also in double figures for the Cougars were junior forward Danielle Brown (North Brunswick, NJ/St. Peter's) with 12 points (4-4 FG), sophomore center Angelica Bermudez (Belleville, NJ/St. Anthony) with 11 points (5-10 FG) and junior guard Olivia Triano (Keyport, NJ), who contributed 10 off the bench (4-5 FG).
Senior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, NJ/Shabazz) delivered nine points and eight assists with only two turnovers in 17 minutes. Junior guard Alysha Taylor (Galloway, NJ) had eight points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Renee Henry (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) gave out five assists off the bench.

SHAYLA DANIELS (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) had seven points and seven rebounds. Sophomore center
ROBIN REYNOLDS (East Orange, NJ/University) pitched in with seven rebounds off the bench.
Kean out-rebounded NJCU 54-35 and had a 46-16 edge in points in the paint. Kean's reserves outscored the Knights bench, 32-2. The Knights shot just 17-of-69 (.246) from the field.
Kean used two first half runs to take control of the game, en route to a 50-20 halftime lead. Tied 6-6 early, the Cougars, behind back-to-back three-pointers by Taylor and Jackman,mounted a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to break the game wide open, 18-8.
Overton's top of the key three-pointer cut Kean's lead to 24-13 with 11 minutes left to the play in the first half, but aided by another scoring run, this time a 15-0 spurt, the Cougars pulled ahead 39-13. The full-court press created problems for NJCU in the first half, as Kean forced 13 turnovers and scored 20 points off of NJCU's miscues. NJCU did cut it to 25 in the early stages of the second half but would get no closer.
NJCU is back in action Wednesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. when it plays Ramapo College in an NJAC game on the road in Mahwah, NJ. Kean travels to Baruch College for a non-conference contest that day at 7 p.m.
