JERSEY CITY, NJ…All nine players in the lineup had at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored as
New Jersey City University put up 13 runs in the first two innings and pounded the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 18-1, in five innings, in a non-conference softball game on Thursday at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. It was the first-ever meeting between the schools in softball.
NJCU won its third consecutive game (3-5) while playing its home opener and the first game on the northern part of its 2009 schedule. The Dolphins (0-1) were playing their first game of the year. Nine of NJCU's 16 hits were doubles. NJCU also walked nine times.

MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) collected two doubles while going 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and her sixth steal of the year.

TAYLOR LANG (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) added two runs and one RBI in a 1-for-2 showing.
Senior right-hander
ANDREA DELUCREZIA (Belleville, NJ/St. Mary's-Rutherford) did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, before finishing with a five-inning, two-hitter for her second win (2-2). She struck out four, bringing her career total to 248, and walked three.
CMSV freshman right fielder Katie Shea (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) broke up the no-hitter and shutout with a solo homer in the fourth inning. Freshman first baseman Victoria Baldini (Yonkers, NY/Our Lady of Victory) was 1-for-2 with two steals. Freshman Renee Reynes (Bronx, NY/Aquinas) lost after allowing 16 earned runs and 16 hits, walking nine with one strikeout.
NJCU scored six times in the first inning despite just one hit, as 10 batters came to the plate, and the patient Gothic Knights walked five times.
NJCU scored seven runs in the second inning, behind five hits and three doubles, and walked three more times as the Knights batted around again with 10 coming to the plate.
The hosts plated another run behind three hits (two doubles) in the third for a 14-0 lead. In the fourth inning, NJCU tacked on four more runs and added another seven hits, before the game ended after four and a half innings due to the eight-run rule.
NJCU will play its first doubleheader of the year on Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m. when it hosts Brooklyn College.
