JERSEY CITY, NJ…The New Jersey City University baseball team is 1-1 on the season and departs on Thursday, March 5 for its annual spring break tournament in Florida. For the second consecutive year, the Gothic Knights will participate in the Russ Matt College Spring Break Invitational, with 10 games over a span of nine days in four cities in the Orlando, Florida vicinity.
NJCU fans can follow all games played from March 10-13 live at www.njcugothicknights.com. The NJCU athletics department will offer a free, live video broadcast of the final five games of the tournament and live statistics on its website.
NJCU opens the trip hours after arriving in Florida when it meets 2008 NCAA-qualifier Gwynedd-Mercy College on March 5 at 4 p.m. at Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
NJCU plays the lone doubleheader of the trip on Friday, March 6 against Milwaukee School of Engineering in Auburndale, FL at 1 p.m. On March 7 the Knights face St. Vincent College (Pa.) in Auburndale at 9 a.m., before meeting Cazenovia College on March 8 in Winter Haven, FL at 2:45 p.m.
After a day off on March 9, NJCU challenges Drew University on Tuesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. in Winter Haven.
On Wednesday, March 11, NJCU plays two games against separate competition, meeting St. John Fisher College (NY) at 1 p.m. and Curry College (MA) at 5 p.m.
On Thursday, March 12, NJCU takes on Keystone College at 10:30 a.m. in Leesburg, FL, before closing the trip on March 13 with a 9 a.m. contest against Thomas More College in Winter Haven.
The tournament schedule will be challenging for NJCU, as Gwynedd-Mercy, Curry and Keystone all advanced to the 2008 NCAA Tournament while St. John Fisher was an ECAC Upstate qualifier.
