UNION, NJ…New Jersey City University
scored twice in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by sophomore catcher TAYLOR LANG (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) and a subsequent passed ball and senior right-hander pitcher LACEY SKOWRONSKI (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) made the lead hold up with a solid effort on the mound as the Gothic Knights surprised Kean University, 2-1, in game one of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Cougar Field.

NJCU scored twice in the opening inning of game two, and led 2-0, but the contest was halted after two innings due to rain and will be replayed from the start on Thursday, April 16 at 3 p.m.

NJCU wins its fifth consecutive game to move within a win of .500 overall (14-15, 4-7 NJAC) while Kean falls to 13-16 (4-7 NJAC). The win for NJCU was its first over the Cougars since sweeping Kean in Jersey City on April 3, 2001. It snaps Kean's 14-game winning streak in the series which the Cougars lead, 36-6. It was also NJCU's first win in Union since March 27, 2000. Each team had seven hits and stranded nine runners in the game.

Sophomore second baseman DANIELLE DELFINO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) had her third multiple hit game in four outings, going 2-for-4 with a double and her 21st stolen base of the year. Lang was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior centerfielder/third baseman TARA PERRUCCI (Wallington, NJ/Wallington) and junior first baseman CHRISTINA PROSPERO (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) each had an RBI and run scored.

Kean received a 2-for-3 effort from sophomore first baseman Katie Yard (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) while junior right-hander pitcher Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, NJ/Dunellen) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior catcher Jesse Buchanan (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) scored a run.

03-20-09 Lacey Skowronski 15
Skowronski
improved to 8-7 on the year by allowing just one run and seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Shotwell dropped to 6-8 overall. She gave up two runs (one earned) with five K's and three walks.

Kean had two runners on in the second inning before Skowronski forced two inning-ending fly balls. In the third inning, Kean had a two-out single to left by Shotwell to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Skowronski coaxed a ground out to end the inning and prevent further damage.

NJCU threatened in the fourth, leaving two runners stranded. In the fifth, Skowronski walked and NJCU loaded the bases before Shotwell had a strikeout to end the frame.

Finally, NJCU moved in front to stay in the sixth. Prospero had a leadoff single and Perrucci followed with an infield bunt single. Lang slipped a single through the left side to score Prospero with the game-tying run and Perrucci moved to third, before scoring on a passed ball for a 2-1 advantage.

Kean doubled with one out in the sixth but did not score. In the seventh, freshman shortstop MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) led off with a single but was left at third. That led to the bottom of the seventh and Skowronski retired the Cougars 1-2-3, ending the game with a fly out to center field.
