MAHWAH, NJ…
Senior pitcher LACEY SKOWRONSKI (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) limited #20 ranked Ramapo College to just one run over seven innings before the Roadrunners took advantage of the tie-breaker rule in extra frames, surviving for a 2-1 victory over NJCU in eight innings in game one of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday at the Ramapo Athletic Center. RCNJ took the second game, 10-2, in five innings.

With the wins, Ramapo, ranked 20th in Division III for the last two weeks by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, improves to 16-4 and 4-4 NJAC. The Gothic Knights, who have now lost to a nationally renown NJAC program by a 2-1 score in eight innings twice this year (William Paterson University, March 28), fall to 9-15 overall and 1-7 NJAC. Ramapo leads the all-time series, 39-14 and has won 14 straight between the schools.

Junior second baseman Jamie Chalkley (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) was 2-for-3 and freshman designated player Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went 2-for-4.

Ramapo left the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings before finally tying the game when Malgeri led off the sixth inning with her first homerun of the year. Skowronski would strand two runners in the sixth to preserve the tie. In all, RCNJ left 13 runners on base in the game.

NJCU had a chance to regain the lead in the seventh after Skowronski and sophomore first baseman CHRISTINA PROSPERO (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) each singled and moved to second and third with two outs, but could not be brought in. Sarica was stranded on third in the tie-breaking eighth inning. Malgeri started the bottom of the eighth at second base under the tiebreaker rule before scoring the winning run when Chalkley had a two-out single to left field for a 2-1 win.
