JERSEY CITY, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...The New Jersey City University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the addition of men's golf for the 2009-10 academic year. The program will build a foundation while competing on the club level during the fall and spring seasons in 2009-10, before being elevated to the varsity level for the 2010-11 campaign.

Men's golf becomes the 16th offering by the NJCU athletics department and the eighth men's sport. It represents the first addition to the Gothic Knight athletics program since men's indoor and outdoor track and field was reinstituted in 2002-03.

Alice De Fazio, Director of Athletics, said: “We are excited at the prospect of adding men's golf to NJCU's sport offerings. We are confident this will be a positive experience for out student-athletes and look forward to competitive success.”

Other than men's golf, NJCU will continue to sponsor intercollegiate baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's bowling, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women indoor and outdoor track and field and men's and women's volleyball.

The schedule for the 2009-10 club season will be announced in the fall.

Athletes interested in joining the men's golf team should contact Ken Heaton, assistant director of athletics, at kheaton@njcu.edu or 201-200-3079.
