In the second match, St. Joseph's College (NY) snapped NJCU's 11-match winning streak in the series dating to the 2004 season, as the Eagles prevailed, 3-1 (25-12, 26-28, 25-19, 25-17). NJCU still leads the all-time series, 17-8.

When NJCU won the second set to tie the match at 1-1, it had to come from behind after letting a 24-22 lead slip away. Down 25-24, Loo extended play with a kill. A kill by O'Connell again tied it at 26-26 before Johanesen floored a shot for a 27-26 lead and SJC made an attack error.

NJCU opens its 2009 home schedule and New Jersey Athletic Conference play when it hosts Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
