JOHANESEN FINISHES CAREER WITH 2,750 ASSISTS, NJCU ENDS 2010 SEASON WITH 3-0 LOSS TO DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN, PA (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior all-time leading setter ALEX JOHANESEN (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) wrapped up her brilliant four-year career with exactly 2,750 assists, providing 15 assists and two aces in her finale, but Delaware Valley College took advantage of a short-handed New Jersey City University starting lineup and defeated NJCU, 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-15) in a non-conference match on Friday night. It was the first-ever meeting between the schools in women's volleyball.
 
NJCU concludes its 2010 season with a 7-20 record, dropping the final six matches. The Aggies end their season at 12-16 overall after posting a team hitting percentage of .363 with 37 kills and only eight errors in 80 attempts.
 
In 368 career sets, Johanesen also landed 198 service aces and is the most accurate server in program history with a .975 serve percentage in 1,659 attempts.
 
NJCU was without the services of All-Conference junior outside hitter TABITHA JORDAN (West New York, NJ/Memorial) and starting sophomore libero AMANDA DOPICO (West New York, NJ/Memorial)—both of whom suffered injuries in a loss at Rowan University on October 28.
 
Junior defensive specialist MICHELLE RAYO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) received her first start as a hitter and performed well with a team-best seven kills and .200 attack percentage (7-3-20), while also delivering eight digs. Freshman middle hitter ASHLEY LATUSHKO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) added six kills and sophomore middle hitter BRITTANY EREZUMA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) chipped in nine digs and five kills.
 
DVC posted a .519 attack percentage in the opening set on 15 kills (15-1-27) to set the tone for the match. Freshman middle hitter Janel Gluch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) led the Aggies with 10 kills, five blocks and a .471 attack rate (10-2-17) and junior middle hitter Kaitlyn Olsen (Garden City Park, NY/Garden City) added a .471 attack clip with nine kills (9-1-17). Freshman outside hitter Destinee Horning (Lititz, PA/Manheim Central) rejected five blocks and had six kills (6-2-14, .286) and three aces.
 
Senior setter Amy Scordato (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) collected 27 assists and senior outside hitter Ashley Mikulsky (Reading, PA/Exeter) had a match-best 11 digs with six kills (6-2-16, .250). DVC landed 10 service aces as a team.
 
Johanesen graduates for NJCU, but all other players are scheduled to return in 2011 when the Knights take the court for the 29th season of women's volleyball.
