POMONA, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University senior setter ALEX JOHANESEN (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) delivered 13 assists to close in on 2,500 for her career but two-time defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Richard Stockton College swept the Gothic Knights, 25-6, 25-11, 25-12, in an NJAC match on Tuesday night at the Stockton Sports Center.
The Ospreys won their 10th consecutive match to improve to 17-3 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC. NJCU (5-10, 0-4 NJAC) dropped its fourth straight match. Stockton leads the all-time series, 39-5.
Johanesen increased her career assists total to 2,498, and likely will become the second player in school history to register 2,500 for a career on October 7 when NJCU hosts Medgar Evers College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center. Johanesen added seven digs.
Sophomore middle hitter BRITTANY EREZUMA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) tallied five of NJCU's 16 kills and junior libero MICHELLE RAYO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) defended a match-high 14 digs.
Stockton was led by sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Warner (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) with team highs of six kills and six solo blocks, and a .667 attack percentage (6-0-9). Senior defensive specialist Allison Kleeman (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and junior middle hitter Tabitha Nejman (Runnemede, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy) had five kills apiece while freshman setter Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville, FL/P.K. Yonge) tallied nine assists and eight digs. Senior libero Christine Astarita (Selden, NY/Newfield) had 11 digs.
Stockton hit .234 as a team with a line of 27-9-77, and added 14 aces and 53 digs to limit NJCU's attack to a -.033 percentage (16-19-90).
