The New Jersey City University women's bowling team assembled a perfect day, as the Gothic Knights averaged a remarkable 210.0 per player and a 1050 pins per match and notched four victories, including a 77-pin rout of nationally #1 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University, as NJCU, the defending Northeast Conference regular season champions, went undefeated to claim a share of first place overall in the league on the final day of the first NEC meet of the 2010-11 season. Division III NJCU now owns a 19-4 record in two seasons as an associate member of the Division I NEC conference.

On a sensation day, nationally No. 8-ranked NJCU improves to 14-8 overall and 7-2 in the NEC. The Knights blasted past No. 15 St. Francis College by 129 pins, winning 1066-937. In the second match, the Knights downed #13 Adelphi University, 996-937. In the third match, NJCU upset #1 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson—the preseason NEC favorite— 1046-969. NJCU closed the successful day by crushing Saint Francis University (Pa.) by 149 pins, winning 1092-943 in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

After the first of three NEC events this season, NJCU, FDU, St. Francis (NY) and Kutztown University all are 7-2 and tied for first place in the conference; the Knights have wins over two of the three opponents. Sacred Heart University is 6-2 in fifth place. Adelphi and Saint Peter's College are 4-5, Monmouth and Saint Francis (Pa.) are 2-7 and Long Island University is 1-8. The top eight teams in the 10-team conference will advance to the 2011 NEC Championship Tournament.

Reigning Northeast Conference Coach of the Year FRANK PARISI, in his 11th year as head coach, was extremely pleased with NJCU's performance.

“We had a phenomenal day and everyone contributed; all eight [players on the trip] all weekend long. The team is complete and deep just as we expected.”

Parisi, the five-time National Coach of the Year, when asked why his program performs so well in the Northeast Conference—a league that currently features six of the top 15 ranked programs in the nation—said: “That's a good question. We have the [good] competition but we just focus on ourselves and what we have to do and what we can take care of. We don't worry about the other teams. That's the formula we have and it works for us.”

Senior NICOLE DREJERWSKI (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic), also a First-Team All-NEC pick last year and the reigning NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, had a masterful day with a 233.00 average in four games and notched three games of 225 or better with a 262 high mark. Her four-game pinfall was 932 with games of 246-191-233-262.

Junior AMY BREHM (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) continues to pay dividends as a

starter. In four games she averaged 213.50 with a high game of 247. Her four-game pinfall was 854 with scores of 194-223-247-190.

Junior JENNIFER DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), also a First-Team All-NEC selection last year, posted a 208.00 average and total wood of 832, with scores of 200-215-192-225.

Freshman NICOLE BAGINSKY (South River, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) played all four games and the rookie performed well with a 201.75 average and a 231 high game. Her four-game pinfall was 807 with marks of 231-167-217-192.

Freshman ASHLEY JOHNSON (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) had a 184.00 average in three games in her first career start and had scores of 195-200-157. Freshman CATHERINE ROTOLO (Edison, NJ/Edison) finished the FDU match in place of Johnson, and then uncorked a 223 in the win over Saint Francis (Pa.).

In nine matches during the weekend, Drejerwski, Brehm and Daunno all posted 200 or better averages with five games of 200+. Drejerwski posted a 211.56 average and nine-game pinfall of 1904.

Brehm, a starter for the first time this season, averaged a 207.56 in nine games and an 1868 pinfall. In 13 games this season she has a 196.46 average and 2554 total wood—after averaging a 179.5 in 22 games in 2009-10.

Daunno tallied a 201.33 average and 1812 pinfall for the weekend. Baginsky registered a six-game average of 199.17 (1195 total wood).

In the first match, NJCU faced St. Francis (NY). The Terriers entered the match undefeated in the conference (5-0) after a win against #1 FDU on November 13. Ironically, NJCU, which is 19-4 all-

time in conference play, also improved to 19-4 against the Terriers over the last four seasons with the 1066-937 victory. The Knights averaged 213.2 per player as all five starters collected a 194 or better, led by Drejerwski, who chalked up a 246. Meanwhile, Baginsky tossed six consecutive strikes during the match and finished with a 231. Daunno tallied a 200.

The closest match of the day came in the second contest against #13 Adelphi, but NJCU still prevailed by 59 pins and improved to 22-11 all-time against the Panthers, winning 996-937.

NJCU trailed by more than 50 pins until the strikes began falling in the eighth frame. Brehm led the squad with a 223 and posted five straight strikes from the seventh frame until the fill ball in the 10th frame. Daunno finished the match with five strikes in a row and posted a 215. Johnson tossed a 200 and Drejerwski added a 191 in the win.

In 2009-10, NJCU and Fairleigh Dickinson played 12 times and split the first 10 meetings before FDU defeated the Knights twice in the NCAA Championship, including once in the Final Four, en route to winning the national title. After NJCU's 77-pin win over FDU in the third match of the NEC meet, the two long-time archrivals are 1-1 against each other already this season.

Brehm tossed a career-high 247 and Drejerwski unleashed a 233 as NJCU knocked off the nation's No. 1 ranked team, 1046-969. Baginsky collected a 217 and Daunno chipped in a 192 in the victory. The loss was just the third of the season for FDU (20-3).

In the final match, NJCU squared off with first-year program Saint Francis (Pa.) and the Knights crushed the Red Flash by 149 pins, winning 1092-943. Drejerwski exploded for a 262, tossing six straight strikes to open the contest. It was her highest game since tossing a 277 on February 13, 2010 against Saint Peter's in NEC action.

Daunno complemented her teammate with a 225 and Rotolo achieved her first career 200 game, setting the bar high with a 223. In a match where NJCU averaged 218.4 per player, Baginsky chipped in a 192 and Brehm knocked down 190.

NJCU returns to the lanes in the three-day Eastern Shore Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Millsboro, DE from November 19-21.
