The No. 8 ranked New Jersey City University women's bowling team kept rolling and extended its winning streak to 11 straight as NJCU notched a 6-0 record on the opening day of the Jeannette Lee Invitational, hosted by St. Paul's College. NJCU, which went undefeated for the fourth time in 10 dates of competition this season, was in fourth place among 22 schools after the first round.

NJCU improved its overall record to 35-11 (.761)—and an astounding 26-3 since November 13, a .897 winning percentage in that span. Since opening the year with a 7-6 record, the Gothic Knights are 28-5, equivalent to a .848 win percentage.

Despite fielding the youngest roster in the program's history during the NCAA Championship-era, the Knights currently own the third best record after 46 matches in its annals. The 2004-05 team was 37-9 and the 2006-07 club opened at 36-10.

In six traditional five-person team games, all six wins were lopsided results, as the Knights won by a triple-digit margin in each. NJCU opened with a 252-pin romp of Chowan University, 973-721
10-20-10 Nicole Baginsky 4
before blasting Winston-Salem State University by a 347-pin margin, winning 1065-718. In a 285-pin thrashing of Virginia Union University, NJCU prevailed 962-677 and the Knights downed Virginia State University in the fourth match, 854-706.

In the most lopsided win of the season NJCU crushed Elizabeth City State University by 387 pins—a 1066-679 decision. NJCU capped the day by defeating Bowie State University, 884-774.

No. 1 ranked and defending NCAA champion Fairleigh Dickinson University led after day one with 6,162 total pinfall and #10 ranked Sacred Heart was second was 177 pins back at 5,985. No. 5 University of Central Missouri was third (5,945, -217) and NJCU listed fourth with 5,804—358 pins behind. No. 13 Adelphi University rounded out the top five (5,773).

All eight NJCU keglers on the trip bowled three or four games, so while none qualified for the Top 25 individually in standings determined by total pinfall, several experienced outstanding efforts.

NJCU sophomore lefty KELLY DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), the 2009-10 NCAA Division III National Rookie of the Year, had an awesome day, posting a four-game average of 223.50 with pinfall of 894 and scores of 203-259-186-246. She placed 48th overall but had the fourth best average among the 144 competitors.

Freshman ASHLEY JOHNSON (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) had a three-game average of 198.67 and 596 total wood (204-186-206) and freshman NICOLE BAGINSKY (South River, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) earned a 197.25 average in four games, including a
10-20-10 Ashley Johnson 9
career-best 256 in the win over ECSU. Her four-game pinfall was 789 (195-161-256-177).

Freshman ASHLEY LANE (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) sported a 197.33 average in three games with a 592 pinfall (210-196-186) and freshman CATHERINE ROTOLO (Edison, NJ/Edison) added a 191.50 rate with a four-game pinfall of 766, including a career-high 247 (200-247-181-138).

NJCU's regular starters, junior AMY BREHM (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), junior JENNIFER DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) and reigning NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, senior NICOLE DREJERWSKI (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic), all bowled four games.

In the 973-721 win over Chowan, Brehm led the way with a 216. KELLY DAUNNO tossed a 203 and Rotolo added a 200. NJCU is 2-0 all-time against the Hawks.

In the 347-pin rout of Winston-Salem State University, 1065-718, KELLY DAUNNO uncorked a 259, Rotolo tossed a 246 and Lane rolled a 210. Those three players alone collected 716 pins—two shy of the entire opposing team. NJCU is 9-0 against the Rams since 2004.

In the third match, NJCU met Virginia Union University for the first time in program history and made a little history of its own, as head coach FRANK PARISI started his youngest lineup in the team's 11-year history—four freshmen (Baginsky, Johnson, Lane and Rotolo) and one sophomore in KELLY DAUNNO, who served as the anchor. Every bowler scored at least 181 with Johnson leading the way with a 204. Lane and Baginsky collected a 196 and 195, respectively.

In the fourth match, NJCU knocked off Virginia State for the second day in a row and defeated the Trojans for the eighth consecutive meeting as four freshmen started again—Baginsky, Johnson, Lane and Rotolo—with the club's lone senior, Drejerwski, serving as the anchor. Lane and Johnson each rolled a 186 and despite its lowest score of the day, NJCU prevailed by 148 pins, winning 854-706. The Knights are 8-1 all-time against Virginia State.

In NJCU's most lopsided win of the season, NJCU crushed Elizabeth City State by 387 pins, winning 1066-679 to improve to 7-0 all-time against the Vikings. Three NJCU players recorded at least 200, with Baginsky's 256 serving as the catalyst. She tossed 10 strikes in the match. Drejerwski rolled a 225—the fifth time this year she has tallied a 225 or better in a match—and Johnson collected a 206. Brehm and JENNIFER DAUNNO finished with a 190 and 189, respectively. Baginsky, Drejerwski and Johnson combined for 687 pins—eight better than the entire ECSU squad.

In the final match of the day, NJCU knocked off Bowie State for the ninth straight time since 2007, winning 884-774 as KELLY DAUNNO completed her best career day with a 246.
