Senior leftfielder TARA PERRUCCI (Wallington, NJ/Wallington) led off the top of the seventh inning with a game-winning solo homerun after freshman pitcher ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) lost her bid for a no-hitter as New Jersey City University outlasted Olivet College, 1-0, in a true pitcher's duel in the second game of two for the Gothic Knights on Thursday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, played at the Cape Coral Sports Complex. St Lawrence University defeated NJCU, 9-5, in the opening game of the day.

NJCU, with the 1-1 result on the day, improves to 6-2 overall, marking the best start to a season after eight games since 1999, when the program also was 6-2. It's only the third time in the 29-year history of the softball program that the Knights have opened a year, 6-2.
