JERSEY CITY, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...Ramapo College scored 15 times in the opening game while pitching a three-hit shutout and broke a 4-4 deadlock in game two with two runs in the second and three in the third inning as the Roadrunners swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader from host New Jersey City University, 15-0 in five innings and 10-4, on Tuesday at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
Ramapo extends its winning streak to six with the sweep, improving to 16-10 (5-3 NJAC) and leads the all-time series against NJCU (9-13, 0-8 NJAC), 41-14. RCNJ has won the last 16 meetings.
Sophomore right fielder Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was a combined 3-for-7 with five RBIs in the two games and senior center fielder Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian) was 4-for-7 with three runs. Freshman second baseman Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII) scored four runs, with four RBIs in a 3-for-5 showing.

Junior right-hander Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) tossed a five-inning, three-hit shutout, striking out three without walking a batter as Ramapo cruised to victory in game one. All three NJCU hits were singles. She improved to 6-5 overall.
Ramapo scored runs in every inning before the eight-run rule was applied. The Roadrunners tallied 12 hits, with three runs in the first, two in the second and third and seven in the fourth before adding a single run in the fifth.
Junior third baseman Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ/Belleville), the No. 9 hitter, was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, notching her first homerun of the season—a two-run shot in the third. Junior left fielder Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two steals. Rothenberger finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs, two walks, one run, and a double.
Also for the Roadrunners, Donnelly went 2-for-3 with two runs. Kent was 1-for-2 with two runs. The Roadrunners drew 12 walks and left 10 runners on base. It was the most walks by an NJCU opponent since 14 on April 17, 2006.
NJCU junior catcher ALEXANDRA DiIORIO (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) had two of NJCU's three hits, going 2-for-2. Freshman third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) supplied the third hit.
NJCU freshman ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) fell below .500 for the first time this season (6-7). All 15 runs were earned, while allowing 12 hits, 12 walks and three strikeouts.
****************GAME 2: RAMAPO COLLEGE 10, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 4*****************
Ramapo scored four times in the bottom of the first for a 4-1 lead as the Roadrunners served as the home team in game two by conference rule. NJCU took advantage of three Ramapo errors in the top of the second to tie the game at 4-4 before the Roadrunners took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the frame, adding three runs in the third for a 9-4 lead, and went on to win 10-4.
Junior righty Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) did not allow an earned run (four total) while surrendering just three hits. She struck out nine and walked three, improving to 8-2.
Kent led Ramapo, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs while Rothenberger added two RBIs, including her second homer of the season, with a 2-for-4 effort. Donnelly was 2-of-4 with one run and freshman second baseman Deanna Russomanno (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was 2-for-2 with a run and BRI.
Also for Ramapo, freshman first baseman Janet Brown (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) notched her first collegiate hit—a leadoff homerun to right in the fifth inning, scoring twice. Sophomore catcher Maggie Scarpelli (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) was 2-for-4.
Satz led NJCU with 2-for-3 hitting. She had one RBI and a double, finishing the twinbill a combined 3-for-5. Sophomore shortstop MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was 1-for-2 with a run.
Senior left fielder/pitcher TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington) took the loss (3-6), allowing 10 earned runs, 15 hits and two walks with one strikeout.
NJCU is back in action on Wednesday, April 14 at 4 p.m. when it faces Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY in a non-conference contest. Ramapo visits Moravian College on April 15 at 3 p.m.
