UNION, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...New Jersey City University senior left fielder and right-handed pitcher TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington) and freshman third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) each went 2-for-4 in game two but Kean University swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Gothic Knights, 9-0 in five innings and 7-2, on Tuesday at Cougar Field.
Kean improves to 21-11 and 6-6 in the NJAC with the pair of wins and leads the all-time series, 39-6. NJCU falls to 14-16 overall (1-11 NJAC).
Perrucci moved into a share of sixth place in school history with 109 career hits, matching Karen Flicker (1992-95) on the all-time list and eclipsing Nicole Scudese (1996-99) at 108 hits.
Kean senior second baseman Melissa Dietrich (Carteret, NJ) was a combined 4-of-7 with seven RBIs.

In game one, junior right fielder JORDAN POTTER (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) broke up a potential no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, singling up the middle.
Kean junior right-hander Courtney Smyth (Abington, PA) was perfect through three innings before finishing with the one-hit shutout, as she struck out six batters to improve to 9-7.
Offensively, Kean scored twice in the first inning, with four in the third and three in the fourth before the game ended after five innings. Eight different Cougars recorded hits with senior first baseman Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, NJ) leading the way at 3-of-3 with three runs scored.
Dietrich finished 2-of-3 with two RBIs. Junior designated player Katie Yard (Hillsborough, NJ) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
Also for Kean freshman third baseman Courtney Melchionna (Linden, NJ) drove in two runs with a double to center in the third inning. Rookie catcher Gabi Ciacciarelli (Howell, NJ)scored twice, going 1-of-2.
NJCU rookie righty ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) took the loss (8-9), allowing seven earned runs and 11 hits, with three walks and one strikeout.
******GAME 2: KEAN UNIVERSITY 7, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 2******
In game two, Satz and Perrucci combined for four of NJCU's 11 hits. NJCU led 1-0 after one inning before the Cougars took the lead with two runs in the second, adding one in the third for a 3-1 advantage. Kean made it 4-1 in the top of the fifth before NJCU drew within two, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth. But the Cougars scored three times in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
In addition to the multiple hits by Satz and Perrucci, NJCU received hits from Potter, junior center fielder STEPHANIE GOMEZ (South Plainfield, NJ/Belleville), and junior catcher TAYLOR LANG (Carteret, NJ/Carteret).
Dietrich led Kean with three RBIs, going 2-for-4 while rookie left fielder Katie Schuh (Mount Holly, NJ) was 3-for-4 with two runs. Sophomore shortstop Alicia Banz (Carteret, NJ) had a RBI double, finishing 2-for-4. Senior designated player Allison Thibault (Garfield, NJ) added two hits.
Shotwell was the winning pitcher in game two, improving to 12-4. In seven innings, she allowed two runs and seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Perrucci took the loss for NJCU, falling to 6-7. In 7.0 innings, she was charged with six earned runs and 11 hits, walking three.
NJCU took a 1-0 lead in the first as Gomez walked and scored on an RBI single by Perrucci. Kean answered back in the top of the second. Schuh singled, Melchionna walked, and both scored on a two-run double to left by Dietrich.
After Kean extended the lead to 4-1, NJCU cut the lead in half in the sixth as Lang singled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a passed ball.
Kean scored its three seventh-inning runs on a sacrifice fly by Melchionna before Banz—the younger sisterof former NJCU women's bowling standout Lauren Banz—had an RBI double and scored on an RBI single by Dietrich.
NJCU returns to action on Wednesday, April 21 at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader against FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ.
